SYNOPSIS

An ERT S.A. documentary about the Hippie movement during the 60’s, their life in the caves of Matala Crete, and the social and political situation in Greece, Europe, and USA at that period.

It was in the 60s when Matala, a poor, fishermen’s village in southern Crete, gained worldwide fame with reports in the international press and became the “controversial point” of the local society causing the wrath of the church and the intervention of the military regime in Athens.
Hippies from all over the world lived in the famous caves of Matala forming a unique international community whose members’ loose and alternative lifestyles provoked the ethics of the time.
Who were these youngsters?
What brought them to Matala?
What was their relationship with the locals?
Did orgies really take place?
The answers are given by the -nearly seventy year old today-protagonists of the story, the German Arn and Elmar, the British sisters Shirley and Pam, Dimitris Poulikakos, grandma Alexandra and grandma Katerina as well as George, a poor fisherman and a friend of Joni Mitchell ever since.
